Slack

Install Henry in Slack, talk to it in channels and DMs, and control what it reads.

Install Henry

A workspace admin connects Slack from Channels, from the dashboard, or from Settings → Team settings → Chat platforms. Click Connect and approve the Slack installation. The Slack app is called Henry.

You need permission to install apps in your Slack workspace. If your Slack admins restrict app installs, they may need to approve Henry first.

Talk to Henry

• Mention @Henry in any channel to ask a question or hand off a task. Henry replies in a thread under your message.
• DM Henry for private conversations. DMs are visible only to you.
• Reply in a thread Henry is already in without tagging it again. It follows the conversation.

Slack only delivers mentions from channels Henry has been invited to. In a private channel, run /invite @Henry first. If you are not sure, type /henry status in the channel. If Henry is not there, it tells you exactly that.

Slash commands

Type /henry followed by a command:

Command	What it does
/henry status	Checks that Henry is connected and whether it is in this channel.
/henry capture on or off	Turns passive reading of this channel on or off. See below.
/henry capture purge	Deletes everything Henry learned from this channel and stops reading it.
/henry ambient on or off	Lets Henry chime in on relevant untagged messages in this channel. Off by default.
/henry help	Lists these commands.

Slash commands are available to members of the Slack workspace Henry is installed in. Slack Connect guests from other workspaces cannot change capture or ambient settings.

Channel capture

When Henry is in a channel, it reads the discussion so it can answer questions about team context later, such as “what did we decide about the launch date?”. This is capture.

• Turn it off for a channel with /henry capture off. What Henry already learned stays.
• Turn it back on with /henry capture on.
• Remove everything Henry learned from a channel with /henry capture purge.

Secrets that appear in channel text, such as API keys and tokens, are redacted before anything is stored.

Ambient mode

Normally Henry only speaks when mentioned. Ambient mode lets Henry reply, in a thread, when an untagged message in a channel is clearly something it can help with. It is off by default and strictly per channel. Turn it on with /henry ambient on.

Approvals in Slack

When Henry needs your go-ahead, it posts a card below its message with Confirm and Cancel. Several actions of the same kind combine into one card with Confirm all. Cards also offer Confirm + always allow this tool and Confirm + always allow this integration so you can stop being asked for things you trust. After you confirm, the card updates to show who approved it and Henry continues the work.

Fast replies

Add !fast anywhere in a message to get a quicker, cheaper reply for that one message. Admins pick which model handles fast replies in Settings → Models.

Files in Slack

• Images you attach are read by Henry. Up to 10 files per message, 4 MB per image.
• Voice memos are transcribed and treated as your message.
• Other file types are acknowledged by name, but Henry cannot read them in Slack today. Use a Project for documents.

Disconnect or reconnect

In Settings → Team settings → Chat platforms, open the menu on the Slack tile and choose Reconnect (refreshes the connection if something seems off) or Disconnect. Disconnecting stops Henry from responding in that Slack workspace and pauses scheduled tasks that deliver there.
